# Quick log

> Press Cmd+L from anywhere in Znift to log a task without breaking flow.

## What it is

Quick log is the core interaction in Znift. `Cmd+L` (or `Ctrl+L` on Windows/Linux) opens a single input. You type what you did or what you need to do, press enter, and it's recorded. No forms, no second screen, no extra clicks.

## When to use it

Use quick log in the moment — the second after you finish a task, or the second you think of one. The whole interaction is designed to be faster than reaching for your mouse, so the cost of capturing something is low enough that you'll actually do it.

## How to use it

1. Press `Cmd+L` (macOS) or `Ctrl+L` (Windows/Linux) from any screen in the app.
2. Type the task. Example: `Review PR #412`.
3. Press `Enter` to save.

After the task exists, open it to add a duration, due time, or priority — those fields are set in the task edit dialog. See [Natural time input](/features/natural-time) for the accepted formats.

To log a task as already completed (useful at end of day), press `Space` while the task is selected. Priority is set with `1` (High), `2` (Medium), `3` (Low), or `0` to clear while the task is focused. Press `Mod+/` in the app for the full list of shortcuts.

## Example

> "Just merged the auth refactor. Need to log that and check sentry later."

Press `Cmd+L` from wherever you are. Type `Merged auth refactor`. Enter. Press `Cmd+L` again. Type `Check sentry for new errors`. Enter. Open that second task and set a due time of `3pm` in the edit dialog. Two tasks captured, back to building.
